Noah Pred

Noah Pred: Toronto, Canada

Producing dance music and performing live for the past ten years, Noah Pred emerged from Vancouver's underground as a sought-after techno DJ with a sophisticated sound and unique style. Devoted to authentic and soulful strains of techno in all its permutations, Noah's sound continues to evolve while remaining firmly driven by the dancefloor.

Since his first records were released, his productions have received international support, garnering critical acclaim while moving dancefloors across the globe. As a DJ and live act, he's toured throughout Europe and North America, performing alongside such diverse artists as Josh Wink, Mathew Jonson, and James Holden. After a three-year stint in Montreal working for Consigned Recordings while holding a residency at Stereobar, Noah relocated to the West Coast to produce his field recording based techno full-length, 'Ecocosm', which was soon released on New Kanada.

Exploring his compositional versatility, Pred launched the Shen project in 2004. Geared towards digital downtempo, electronic dub and emotive IDM, Shen provided a creative outlet for productions that roam beyond the borders of clubland. Noah's debut Shen full-length, 'Outlines', was released on Native State Records in late 2006.

Now based in Toronto, Pred has developed a loyal and devoted following for his potent DJ sets while running the digital imprint Thoughtless Music from his studio headquarters. His recent productions and remixes have been causing a buzz, and following high profile performances at last year's MUTEK and Decibel festivals, Noah's poised for exciting things in the year ahead - with his new full-length, 'Blind Alignments' out now on Thoughtless.

Max Cooper

Max Cooper is a London based musician and geneticist. A combination of these influences is evident in Max’s turntablist DJ sets, technical production style and abstract research topics. Max started DJing in the late 90's in his home city of Belfast, Gaining inspiration from artists like QBert, DJ Craze, Baboo and DJ Noize, who used turntables as instruments to create new beats and sounds through scratching and juggling. This DJ style consumed Max’s time for several years until he turned his focus to his next musical obsession in productions.
Max’s DJ career started in 1999, with a residency at ‘Rumour’ in Belfast. A move to Nottingham to pursue his scientific studies then followed, with the start of his long-standing residency at UK club night, ‘Firefly’, now in its 9th year. Max was quickly recognised by the media, receiving the label of Mixmag ‘future hero’. This National recognition helped Max along the way to a BBC Radio1 invite on Fergie’s Friday night show early in 2004. Max’s Radio1 set was well received, and provided him with a signing to Ornadel Management and Mainstage artists. This provided Max with regular dates across the UK and abroad while he pursued the development of his academic and music productions career. Following the completing of his degree, masters and PhD in Nottingham, Max made the move to London to work on new music and research projects. Currently his main projects include the development of his productions and DJing career with Traum schallplatten and management, Germany, mathematical modelling research on the evolution of networks of genes at University College London, and a sci-art project combining evolutionary and music production algorithms.

Since 2001, Max has played a fundamental role at Firefly, helping the night develop into the giant it is today. This residency has seen Max perform alongside acts including Jeff Mills, Booka Shade, Vitalic, Hot Chip, Dave Clarke, Justice, Digitalism, Derrick May, Slam, Alter Ego, Umek, Alex Under, M.A.N.D.Y., Stanton Warriors, Paul Woolford, Justin Robertson, Speedy J, Daddy G (Massive Attack), Marco Bailey, Andrew Weatherall, Ben Sims, Adam Freeland, Plump DJs, Technasia, Freq Nasty, Phil Kieran, Rolando, Fergie, Hybrid, Green Velvet, Luke Slater, Brodinski etc etc etc!

Max’s personal production career began in 2006, with signings to Firefly recordings and Evolved Records, with considerable chart and press review success for Max at an early stage. Much in line with Max’s DJing style, his production is a fusion of elements from electronica, minimal, electro and techno. 2007 saw Max gain new Residencies The Key - London, Stealth – Nottingham and The Cross – London. Firefly also continues to expand, with new events and festivals in Bristol, London, Sheffield, Birmingham and Nottingham. 2007 also saw Max’s turntablist skills commissioned by the BBC to make a scratch tutorial video which is available on the BBC website.

dub KULT

dub KULT has been making music and DJing since 1990. His records and his label, Living, get props from everyone from Bug to Villalobos to Weatherall to Vath. He’s been remixed by Guido Schneider and remixed Efendin, and been in Groove’s top 10 techno releases of the year as early as 2003. He's released on Warp's offshoot Arcola, German labels Traum and Raum...Musik, Belgium’s Curle and has a track coming on the UK’s Veryverywrongindeed and a remix of Petar Dundov due out this year on Music Man. He did the soundtrack for Channel 4's upcoming Burning Man film, the Tomorrow's World Live show and he’s played every where from Watergate, Berlin, to Burning Man, Black Rock Desert, Nevada.

Always pushing the boundaries and an experimentalist at heart, he has developed a unique, bleeding edge live AV set with integrated improvised music and live triggered/generated visuals.

dub KULT doesn't serve up an arid musical mono-culture, but a rich mix. The diversity of his music is a reflection of his background half-Indian, half-English, part-time member of both the cool crowd and the geek gaggle, neither definitively house nor techno. The music he makes is for both the head and the body. It is both experimental and accessible. Even tunes that seem made for those moments when you're lost on the dance-floor always have some latent, brooding meaning an intention. Like few DJs of his generation, dub

KULT understands that at the centre of clubbing madness lies a still, reflective core.

It's a special insight into party music that's great for your mind, body and soul.

dub KULT is a man whose whole career has been dedicated to the un-ending call-and-response of rhythm, this time expressed in electronic music.

ray K

ray K was born in Bartow FL sometime in the mid 70's. He grew affectionate for music of all forms very early in his childhood. His first mix tapes were done on large dictation tape recorders. Later he moved on to two tape decks and then two Belt Drive Turntables... All before teaching himself the art of sophisticated blend. His current mixes employ a wide variety of down tempo, classic, and current electronic dance music . In that respect there is really no specific sound for ray K . In one set or release he may play soulful / instrumental; in another he may be playing more progressive or techy. "There are only two requirements for the music I play. It must groove and it must be sexy."

Recently, more of the world was turned on to ray K with his guest mix appearance on Lars Behrenroth's Deeper Shades of House a popular weekly radio show for the deep house community, ray K's own radio show "The Rumor" www.wrumor.com is also gaining global poularity as well; featuring the roots and fundamental core music of electronica as well as new releases from producers all over the world. Future plans for ray K involve more work in the studio; as he is now working on his fourth original release and a host of edits and remixes.

Boards of Canada

Boards of Canada (commonly abbreviated BoC) are a Scottish electronic music duo consisting of brothers Michael Sandison (born June 1, 1970) and Marcus Eoin Sandison (born July 21, 1971). They are signed with Warp Records and have released several works on that label with little advertising and few interviews, while also having an elusive and obscure back-catalogue of releases on their self-run Music70 label. They have also recorded a few minor works under the alias Hell Interface.

Boards of Canada's music is reminiscent of the warm, scratchy, artificial sounds of 1970s media and contains themes of childhood, nostalgia and the natural world. Michael and Marcus have mentioned the documentary films of the National Film Board of Canada, from which the group's name is derived, as a source of inspiration.

BoC's sound is a product of their use of analog equipment, mix of electronic and conventional instrumentation, use of distorted samples as well as live and recorded lyrics, and their layering and blending of these elements. Their avoidance of a purely synthetic sound gives their music a warmer, emotive quality often meant to inspire nostalgia. This is helped by the use of samples sourced from 1970s television shows and other media prevalent in the era of the brothers' shared childhood, especially the nature-inspired documentaries produced by the National Film Board of Canada.

Archive - You All LookThe Same To Me

ARCHIVE started off as a trip-hop outfit back in 1994 when Darius Keeler and Danny Griffiths got together with female singer Roya Arab and a young rapper named Roski John. They released a few singles on their own Swam label and broke up in 1996 following some dispute. A year later, they reformed with new personnel to record their first official album entitled "Londinium" - purely trip-hop. After a brief split-up once again, Keeler and Griffiths hired yet another couple of musicians and in 1999, released "Take My Head" - strictly a pop album. In 2002, with yet another set of helpers, they finally decided to go prog and gave us "You All Look the Same to Me".

From the very first notes of "You All Look the Same to Me", you can tell the boys all hold their PINK FLOYD collections in high esteem. It incorporates mainly floydian elements with some RADIOHEAD and COLDPLAY, and features some well orchestrated epics that merit its inclusion on this site. However, the fan base is much divided as to its progressive merits: some rave about it while others would much rather have the boys stick to their trip-hop shenanigans. One thing they do agree on is the excellent musicianship displayed throughout.

If you're a true-blue PINK FLOYD affionado, ARCHIVE's latest release won't live up to your standards. If RADIOHEAD or PORCUPINE TREE meet your prog criteria, then there's a fair chance you will appreciate it.

Sandra Collins

Sandra Collins (born in Las Vegas, Nevada) is an American DJ. She got her start on the West Coast of the U.S. in Phoenix, Arizona and into residencies in Los Angeles, and eventually moved towards trance.

Perhaps more than any other genre, electronic dance music spent the 20th century dominated by male DJs and producers, with only the occasional vocalist such as Björk or Tracey Thorn attaining any sort of notoriety. Consider Sandra Collins the first female DJ to reach superstar status in the late-'90s electronic dance music explosion. By being one of the first American DJs to champion the traditionally Eurocentric sound of trance, she quickly rose to stardom. Her beginnings on the West Coast at rave parties and at clubs led to her eventual entry into the popular Tranceport album series along with a March 2000 cover story for the important New York publication, Mixer.

After an early interest in industrial-flavored techno, it wasn't long before Collins was spinning at the West Coast's infamous desert parties in the early '90s. There her musical style become increasingly melodic and ethereal, influenced by the spiritual desert surroundings. By the mid- to late '90s, she began moving toward the sounds of progressive house and eventually the more epic sounds of trance, much in the style of mid-'90s Sasha and Taylor. By the late '90s, once the elitist class of European trance DJs rose to superstar levels, Collins began moving away from the anthemic sounds that filled the crates of these European DJs and began looking for a more American sound, characterized by West Coast producers such as Deepsky. So on the one hand, she spun trance, a very European sound removed from America, but on the other hand, she favored the handful of American producers in the genre, resulting in a unique sound. This unique sound coupled with Collins' rarity status as a woman garnered her plenty of attention, catapulting her to notoriety seemingly overnight. Many have criticized that she might never have reached such levels of stardom had she been a man. Yet despite this criticism, she was awarded the coveted opportunities to first spin at Woodstock and to mix the third entry in the extremely popular Tranceport series. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide

Bart Van Wissen

What does one need these days in order to succeed in today’s tough world of the music industry? A great deal of determination would be a big answer. Besides the obvious elements such as knowing the right people, managing a fresh outlook towards dance music and possessing a certain level of musical awareness, maybe the most important quality that Dutch producer Bart van Wissen brings to the table is his genuine raw talent.

His dreams began around the tender age of seven, when his grandfather gave him his first keyboard. It didn’t take long before he taught himself to play some basic songs with it. After some time, his parents decided that it wouldn’t be such a bad idea if he took some lessons to help develop his musical skills. At age eleven, when most people are listening to bland pop songs on commercial radio, Bart started producing drum’n’bass tracks on his computer. His taste continued to evolve and he absorbed a larger variety of different styles such as house, trip-hop, jazz, funk and a healthy dose of abstract beats, all of which remain a major influence in his present work.

At the age of nineteen, Bart sent his first demo to Deep Records label boss Peter van Hal. After listening to just a few songs, Van Hal quickly decided that Bart was extremely unique. His fresh sound and incredible musical versatility really shined through his work. From that moment, Bart has been releasing music that has been played by the big DJs all over the world, covering a broad range of styles.

Nowadays, he still refuses to limit himself to just one style of music. His dancefloor-oriented work can be described as funky and danceable, yet at the same time very musical. His downtempo music (under his Sideways alias) contains elements from jazz, funk, triphop and even classical music.

Another important aspect of Bart van Wissen is that he has been working behind the decks for several years now. He’s quickly becoming an excellent DJ, capable of working huge crowds with his fresh attitude and tight mixing skills. In the last few years, he has been travelling to countries like Indonesia, Singapore, Russia, Greece and many more, to play at clubs and festivals.

James Holden Balance 005 CD 1

James Holden is a British electronic music artist and DJ who has released numerous singles and remixes on different labels such as Lost Language, Perfecto Recordings, and Positiva Recordings. He currently runs his Border Community record label. He was also one-third of Mainline, which was responsible for the double single of "Narcotic" and "Innerspace".
James Studied Mathematics at Oxford University and released his first record at age 19. In April 2006 his mix album James Holden at the Controls was Mixmag's Album of the Month.

Be prepared to be swept off your feet with this set. I've never heard of James Holden before this Cd came to my ears trough one of my favorit internet radio,
it has one of those vibes that feel like a big deja-vu. It is composed of sweeping melodies and fluid beats. You feel lost in a symphony of sounds that mesh together seamlessly. I can barely hear the transition in between songs and before you know it you've blow through most of the set by the time you look at the current track that's being played.

Holden does a great job at mixing so many other elements and sounds that you'd be a fool to try and categorize this as anything other than brilliant.

James Holden Joins the upper echelon of electronic masters with this CD released in a series of other Balance CD's under the EQ label.
EQ is an Australia outlet for progressive house and breaks. Their most well known series is the 'Balance' series. EQ is owned and run by Melbourne's Stomp label and distribution company.

Dj Kicks - Tiga

Audio CD
Original Release Date: 27 Jan 2003
Number of Discs: 1
Label: K7
Genre: Electronic
Style: Techno, Electro, Synth-pop

!K7 records was started in 1996. Founded in parallel to the already succesfull "DJ-Kicks" mix compilation series, the label was launched to establish a long-term platform for artistic and musical innovation.

This release by Tiga practically drips electro-house funk grooves from the moment the first track begins, and it stands its own ground for that reason. It's excellent to see that this release is completely solid with elements that just make the listener want to move, Awesome job on the decks by Tiga. this is very energy album one of the best in the DJ Kicks series. Very interesting and fun to listen to.
synthpop, electroclash, techno compilations but not more then a handful of them can be compared to this masterpiece. This is pure class.

The Amazon review says it best about his segues and song selections: they are a cut above the rest. Not only are they seamless, but they are also always unexpectedly great. Tiga clearly knows his stuff when it comes to mixing. Needless to say, of all my DJ Kicks selection, this is easily top three quality, and definitely one to keep the party going.

Tiga is very bizare character and sensetive, he mixed feelings about the current popularity surrounding himself and the electro scene.

Label: Astralwerks, Naked Music Recordings
Genre: Electronic

This is a very deep dark journey into the world where house meets electroclash, dub, jungle blend with dirty, dirty disco, deep dub, the underlying you get is electro aroma that is very funky, dynamics and above of all intelligent !

The mixing is so flawless on LOA that you think you're listening to the same song until the bass-lines and chords kick in. Naked Music has done an amazing job of bringing us new songs and a style of music that its fans are not accustomed to, but can certainly appreciate.

Unadulterated funky beats and tripped-out atmospherics are the order of the day here.
I asked myselve a simple question. If I could step into my dream club right now, what would be pumping from the sound system ?
Well the answer is right here…so check in, grab a seat, have a drink and prepare to be…Lost On Arrival.

Original Release Date:1997
Number of Discs: 1
Label: Black Hole
Format: CD, Mixed, Compilation
Live Turntable Mix By DJ Tiësto
Genre: Electronic

Tiesto creates an atmospheric world full of beautiful epic dreamy melodies.
When you listening to it just close your eyes and let yourself go to this magical world that Tiesto shape.
From the minute you put this in your cd-rom drive, you will be mesmerized, at times to the point where you will want to get off your seat and dance...
it is THAT good. The vocals, harmonies, and beats of each song are so well-coordinated into one continuous sound that you will swear this was mixed digitally and not by mere hands.
Magik is certainly an appropriate name for this album
because there was definitely a good amount of it utilized in the inception of this mix.

No matter how much criticism Tiesto receives or how bad any of his recent sets may have been in the eyes of those resentful of his popularity and success,
he will always be #1, simply for this mix alone. This magik mix, the first of many, is what sets Tiesto apart from the rest of the pack.

It is based on the characters created by Masamune Shirow in the original Appleseed manga series that was published in 1985. Summary

Appleseed takes place at the end of World War III in the year 2131, where most of the world has been devastated by non-nuclear weapons. Deunan Knute, a powerful and highly skilled soldier is still fighting, unaware that the war has already ended.

During a battle, Deunan is rescued by her former lover Briareos (whose body was turned into a cyborg after an accident that nearly left him for dead) and taken to the gigantic metropolis of Olympus, a utopia on Earth where humanity and artificial humans called "Bioroids" live in peaceful coexistence. Most of the city is also maintained by the Supercomputer "Gaia" and the Seven Elders. At Olympus, she begins a new life as a member of the police force E-SWAT and befriends a Bioroid named Hitomi.

However, the coexistence between Humans and Bioroids is an uneasy one, and a brewing conspiracy threatens the existence of Humans and Bioroids worldwide. The only hope against this crisis lies with "Appleseed." However, it lies in a painful and buried part of Deunan's past. Deunan also has an uneasy time dealing with her relationship with Briareos. Will Deunan finally face her past and find the key to end the turbulent Human/Bioroid conflict?

Athena Areios

As prime minister of Olympus, Athena Areios has a very tough job... but then again, she is a VERY tough woman. A first-generation Bioroid, she doesn't have the emotional limitations that other Bioroids have, so she has more latitude to pursue unconventional avenues, like the finding of Deunan Knute. But she has to be careful, for not only are the seven elders are watching her, but so is General Uranus, and she cannot afford any missteps.
There was another reason that Athena was so obsessed in finding Deunan. A long time ago, she had worked closely with the creator of the Bioroids, Deunan's mother Dr. Gilliam Knute, and had also taken care of the young Deunan, so finding her is a personal one, mostly out of honor to her creator.
After Dr. Knute's death, Athena had lost track of Deunan, as her father had taken her and trained her as a soldier. Athena knows that Deunan has in her possession the secrets for reactivating the Bioroid's reproductive cycle, also known as 'Appleseed', so she has to make sure that Deunan can recover the lost information... or all Bioroid life is doomed.

Briareos Hecatonchires

Briareos Hecatonchries was originally a soldier fighting a non-nuclear war for which almost the whole of the world was devastated. He was also the lover of "the Goddess of War", Deunan Knute, and the two often fought and watched each others backs.

A year before Deunan's arrival at Olympus, Briareos was gravely injured in North Africa... so much so that when he was rescued by ESWAT, over seventy-five percent of his body had to be totally replaced in a cybernetic shell.

Briareos, along with ESWAT, and the Bioroid Hitomi, was instrumental in rescuing Deunan after her platoon was wiped out by mercenaries, and brought her to Olympus. However, Briareos is hiding something. Does it happen to be related to General Uranus' planned coup against the Bioroid? And why rescue Deunan... unless it happens to relate to the secret of Deunan's past.

Colonel Hades

Col. Hades works closely with Gen. Uranus in Olympus' regular army. Like Uranus, he has a great disturst of Bioroids. However, his distrust twisted itself into an all-consuming hatred, which made him construct a secret army of landstrider mechas to launch an attack on the Bioroid Care Center, not to mention inlist the help of Briareos as a spy.
In his youth, Hades was a member of Los Angeles' S.W.A.T. team. However, his rash manner caused him to be kicked-out of that team by Carl Knute, Deunan's father. Since then, he hated the Knute family, and regreted that he wasn't the one who killed Carl. That hatred is intensified by the fact that part of Carl's D.N.A. is in everyone of the Bioroids created.

Deunan Knute

For most of her life, Deunan Knute had fought a war that was, for the most part, over. She only knew that the war was over when she was captured by her former lover, Briareos (who was now a cyborg) and the Bioroid Hitomi, who had taken her away from her bleak existence to the utopia that was Olympus.
For someone who had known a hard life, life in Olympus seemed a dream to Deunan. For the first time in her life, her heart had known peace. She was placed in the ESWAT team along with Briareos, which valued her combat experience. However, a rose like utopia did have it's thorns. General Uranus, head of Olympus' army, a human and Bioroid hater, was planing a coup-de-etat of Olympus, and the key to stopping this was something called "Appleseed', which has something to do with Deunan's past.... but what was it?

General Edward Uranus III

General Edward Uranus III is the supreme commander of Olympus' regular army. He greatly distrusts the Bioroids, so much so that he is willing to start a coup de etat in order to wipe them out!
However, unlike Col. Hades, Uranus is not ruled by irrationality. He was a good friend of the Knute family, especally Deunan's father Carl, and deeply regretted the death of Dr. Gilliam Knute.

Hitomi

Hitomi has the unique duty of finding soldiers who had survived the last war on Earth, so that they may be able to defend Olympus and its citizens as part of E.S.W.A.T..

Hitomi's emotions may be suppressed, but some of those emotions arouse her curiosity - especially love. In fact, when she's not on duty, she often wonders what it would it be like to be in love. Hate, however... especially exhibited by Olympus' all-human regular army towards the Bioroids, disturbs and annoys her.
But now, Hitomi's life may be threatened. During Col. Hades' attack on the Bioroid Care Center, the section which also attended to the Bioroids' life extension treatments was also destroyed. Because their reproductive systems were inhibited, Bioroids require periodic life extension treatments. Without them, they would face rapid ageing and death. Hitomi was three days late for hers and now she faces death... unless her new friend Deunan Knute can find Appleseed.

Nike

Working closely as Prime Minister Athena Areios' chief of staff, Nike also commands Olympus's E.S.W.A.T. division. Unlike her older superior, Nike's emotions are carefully regulated by the seven elders. However, her loyalty to the Bioroid's cause - the preservation and salvation of humanity - still remains very strong.

Perfecto

Perfecto Records is a United Kingdom based Trance record label founded by famed trance DJ Paul Oakenfold in 1989.

Perfecto was founded by electronic music maverick Paul Oakenfold in 1989. At the time, house music and the balearic style was beginning to break into the mainstream and Paul was working as an A&R man for Champion Records. Paul decided to apply his A&R skills to the burgeoning electronic music scene and create a place where new artists could develop their careers and so Perfecto Records was born.

Perfecto has released singles from such artists as BT, Tilt, and Carl Cox. It has also released mix albums from Sandra Collins, Seb Fontaine, DJ Skribble, and Paul Oakenfold himself.

Apart from singles, Perfecto has released a few full-length albums.

Perfecto Fluoro

Listening to this, listening to other Oakenfold sets and seeing him live - you really understand why this man is so amazing! His unique understanding of music coupled with his extremely eclectic taste, makes for a fascinating listening experience. Take the last part of disc two, for instance. How does Oakey end his set? Two dark trance bangers are followed by (drumroll, please) JUNGLE! Don't start shaking your head now, because it works! And that's the great thing about Oakenfold.

"Perfecto-Fluoro" is basically a showcase of Goa Trance artists signed on Oakenfold's Perfecto-Fluoro label, back at the height of Goa's public appeal (1996). While the sound quickly wore out its welcome (This month's issue of "Muzik" even gave Oakenfold a "Goa denial rating") this album shows that "Oakey" truly believed in the style. Tracks by artists such as Juno Reactor and Man With No Name are mixed alongside film soundtrack music by composers Wojciech Kilar ("Dracula"), Ryuichi Sakamoto ("Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence"), and the venerable Ennio Morriccone ("The Mission"). There's even a snippet of Barber's Adagio for Strings straight out of "Platoon." And it's not half as cheesy as its interpolation into Skip Raiders "Another Day."

By no means is this "original" Goa Trance. The sound had been evolving since the 1980's and Oakenfold was actually one of the last to catch on. BUT, he made the first real effort to bring it to public attention.

Perfecto Presents Another World

The Host Of Seraphim by Dead Can Dance blares through the speakers, warming the pinnacle of disk-one's climatic entrance. Then, shortly after a "Majestic" reprieve from female singing, Led Zepplin rocks the house with trance as its background. If that's not eclectic enough than I don't what is--. The major problem with a lot of techno these days are the repetitive atmospheres that claim to be original and new. Bah! Do you know how many times I hear the same old same old in terms of sound? It gets quite annoying at times and very unappealing to its uninventfulness. Paul, however, is an exception to this complaint. He seems to reinvent himself with each new release, blessing his listeners with something fresh and flat-out marvelous. And if anybody thinks that this is unoriginal and frankly "boring," than they need to open their minds more to change. The consistant breaks of New Age-type songs are a blissful relief to the constant pounding of the grandious synth lines & groove beats conjured by Oakey, proving techno to be much more than just obnoxious noise. It can also provide you with a source of meditation and emotion, as portrayed here in such tunes as Song To The Siren by Sabel (as heard on a perfume commercial), Rachel's Song by Vangelis, and Sanvean by Dead Can Dance. I think it's a perfect blend of two genres weaving naturally into one colorful hue. And I have to agree with an earlier reviewer who pointed out that Oakey's intent of Perfecto Radio was not made for the purpose of dance clubs but moreso for the reason to produce something to groove to at home without wishing you were raving instead.

Renaissance

Set in the labyrinthine underworld of 2054 Paris, the black-and-white thriller in the vein of “Blade Runner” and “Minority Report” paints a bold vision of a stark, not-so-distant future where all life is monitored, recorded and regulated thanks to the city’s largest corporation, Avalon. Detective Barthelemy Karas, voiced by Daniel Craig (“Casino Royale”) has a reputation for finding anyone at any cost, but while tracking down a kidnapped scientist, he ultimately finds himself buried beneath Renaissance’s illicit world of corporate malfeasance and soulless genetic research. Critically celebrated actor Ian Holm (“Lord of the Rings”), “Braveheart” actress Catherine McCormack and Tony Award®-winner Jonathan Pryce (“Pirates of the Caribbean”) also voice roles.

Ninja Scroll

Ninja Scroll is a Japanese action thriller anime, set in feudal Japan, by critically acclaimed director/writer Yoshiaki Kawajiri. The movie was released on June 5, 1993 and received a Western release on December 6, 1996.

Summary

Jubei is wandering noble sword for hire but when a chance meeting leads him to save young ninja woman from rape he makes enemies with a group of demonic humans. Jubei and the woman part ways but later a government spy forces Jubei to join up with her again and investigate the mysterious death of an entire village. The investigation reveals a conspiracy involving the demons and a man from Jubei’s past who is supposed to be dead. As they get closer to the truth the demons close in on them and pretty soon Jubei finds himself in a deadly fight with many super strong inhuman opponents.

Jubei Kibagami

ubeii is a self hiring Ninja who roams the side of feudal Japan. He meets up with an old man named Dakuwan (looks like Niccotine from Samuri Showdown). Together, with a female ninja named Kagero, the battle against the evil Shogunate government. Unfortunately for these 3, the government has the 8 devils of Kimon, who prove to be quite lethal adversaries. Jubei is known for his expert sword fighting, and lightning fast body attacks.
Jubei is a very intelligent and calculating person. He has very sharp wits and is very good with a sword and making attack and defense strategies. He's basically the perfectly well rounded warrior. No matter what the odds, Jubei will always fight with all of his heart if it's something he believes in.

Kagero

Kagero is the only female warrior of the Koga Ninja that is sent to investigate the mysterious deaths in Shimota village due to an even more mysterious plague. Her main job is as a "poison taster" for her master's food. It turns out that she is totally immune to poison, due the fact that her blood itself is a deadly poison. Merely touching her could be fatal. Throughout her existance she has been thoroughly abused...

Dakuwan

Dakuwan is a spy for the Tokugawa clan who is opposing Shogun of the dark's Toyatome clan. He is a shrewd and underhanded (although not evil) little man. Underestimating him because of his size would be a major mistake. He, like Jubei, is very clever, but unlike Jubei, is a little sadistic.

Benisato

Benisato's special ability is to control snakes.. and shed her skin like one. At one point her body is covered with living tatoos of snakes that come off and turn into real snakes. She is Gemma's lover and the devil that discovered who Jubei was (after Tessai left an imprint of Jubei's face in his hand). She also has the ability to possess people and cause them to burst open with snakes (i.e. the old lady chanting the sutra in the desserted temple). She is very taunting about her relationship with Gemma to Yurimaru, which is reason for the "tension" between them.

Lord Himuro Gemma

Himuro Gemma is Jubei's main nemesis... but he was even before the Devils of Kimon. It turns out that Gemma had betrayed Jubei and tricked Jubei's own clan into trying to kill him. In turn, Jubei was forced to kill the Yamashiro clan ninjas (in self-defense) and then had to avenge their deaths by killing Gemma... and he did just that. (He decapitated Gemma while he was riding a horse).

However, Gemma can reincarnate himself. When Jubei cut his head off, it reconnected itself to his body.

Mushizo

Mushizo has a very strange ability to control wasps. Not only can he talk to and command them, but he actually has a hive in his back. When Jubei slashes his back open the wasps attack him. Mushizo attacks with a 2 pronged pitch fork type weapon, and has a "throat needle" which he can spit out of his mouth. The only thing is he really shouldn't go near water. He is also the one who reveals to Jubei that Gemma has the ability to regenerate himself (while they are fighting in the mill type building).

Shijima

Shijima has many strange abilities. He can control dead bodies (and live ones too!) like they were puppets, he can travel freely through shadows, and he has the ability to multiply himself into "decoys". Actually, it is the illusion of him multiplying. His main weapon is his mechanical claw which he can throw very fast out of the shadows. He throws it at Dakuwan, and is amazed that he avoided it... all it did was pin his clothes to a tree. A pretty nifty enemy to Jubei, but not all that bright.

Tessai

Tessai is the devil responsible for killing all but three of the Koga ninja team (Yurimaru killed one, Zakuro later kills Hanza, and Kagero survives).

Tessai's special ability is to turn his entire body into stone (well not all of his body...), and he is huge!. He also hurls a gigantic double-edged, double-sided sword which cuts through anything in its path, and acts like a boomerang. It slices, it dices, goes through trees, people, just about anything! Somehow, he almost always catches it...

Tessai also has a very bad temper and hates Jubei. In fact, Tessai was the first devil that Jubei ran into... and he is the one that Jubei must save Kagero from. If Tessai had not made the mistake on the night before of kissing Kagero (who is poisonous to the touch) he probably would have had no problem defeating Jubei when they met the following day.

Utsutsu Mujuro

Mujuro is an amazing swordsman... even though he is blind. He is also apparently very strong, due to the fact that he was supporting Jubei's sword when he and Kagero were scaling a cliff. (He also has very cool hair!) In order to avoid losing to him, Jubei had to eliminate all noise that he was making... one sound and it was all over. He was also amazingly fast and even fought Jubei in a forest, running through the trees! He told Jubei: "your sight is a weakness" when he started flashing his sword in Jubei's line of sight to blind him. He was right. Over all he would have to be my favorite devil, as he fought with honor (he could have easily dropped Jubei and Kagero down the cliff when they didn't even know he was there) and was a great warrior. Without the teamwork of Kagero and Jubei, Mujuru may have won the battle for Gemma.

Yurimaru

Yurimaru is second in command (under Gemma) of the eight devils. He is ruthless, but very non-threatening in his composure. His special ability is that of electrocuting his enemies with energy generated in his body. He uses little wires (resembling Jubei's line attached to his sword) and is very accurate with them. He desires to be Gemma's lover... and is very jealous of Benisato, whom Gemma seems to prefer. Sakuro has fallen in love with him, but he has absolutely no desire for her and treats her lower than dirt.
